Dolphin dies in polluted Brooklyn canal

The widely watched dolphin that seemingly lost its way and became stranded in the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn died early Friday evening.
The dolphin stopped moving shortly after 5:30 p.m. after getting wedged between a rock and a pillar below the Union Street Bridge, 1010 WINS’ Sonia Rincon reported.
In 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency called the canal “one of the most contaminated water bodies in the nation.”

Since when is a healthy body and material comforts not enough?

Or, since when is it enough?

I have asked myself this question the moment I realized:

In spite of being unhappy about my body, the way I look in the mirror,

In spite of not knowing what exactly my path is in life,

When I look at God, when I look at the face of God,

everything becomes small, so small they don’t seem to matter as much.

It’s not that it’s a coping mechanism or a way I’m running away/ not dealing with my unhappiness

It’s not just a different way of looking at things

The truth of the matter is

When I look at God,

I understand contentment

As in Paul’s address to the Philippians:

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

(Phil 4:11-12)

11-Week Bikini Boot Camp Challenge!

Alright, so here’s the deal. Spring break will soon be upon us, before we know it. Actually, the weather across most of the U.S. is probably telling most of you that it’s coming soon. But the truth is, it’s only January, which means you still have time to get into beach-ready shape and sculpt your best bikini body!

Fit Sugar recently shared this epic list of 11 boot camp style workouts, all aimed at helping you get ready for bikini season. My goal is to try them all, and I want you to do it with me! Starting today, every Saturday up until March 16 (11 Saturdays from now) I’ll be completing a new Bikini Boot Camp Workout from the list and posting it here to help remind you to get your bikini bottom in tip top shape! (P.S. Fellas, I know you’re probably not planning to throw on a bikini before you head to the beach, but you can totally join in on this challenge if you want a “beachin’ body!”)

Of course, just one workout a week won’t yield the kind of results we’re looking for here, so remember to use this as an extra supplement to your normal weekly workout routine, which should also include a clean, healthy diet! Deal? Deal!

Running produces happy hormones. I discover that I ‘like’ two times the number of pictures on instagram and tumblr after a run. :D If everyone used social networking sites after exercise then the number of likes per picture would possibly be very biased.

I just realized something very funny. Since countries are not all on the same timezone, isn’t it ridiculous to predict that the world will end on one day? Because some countries will be slower than others. Some Christian groups even believed in the prophecy of the Mayan apocalypse, which I find astonishing. My friend believed that even if the end of the world came, she wouldn’t mind because ‘after death, nothing matters’. I didn’t challenge her view but I hold my own, that, everything does matter after death. The life I am living now is all a preparation for eternal life! The flowers wither and the world passes away, but the Word of the Lord endures forever (from various verses in the bible).

It has been said that girls who are more physically attractive are happier than girls who less attractive.

I have this strange thesis that current Victoria Secret Models are the happiest women in the world. It sounds superficial to rate happiness based on external appearance, and I’ve no idea how I’m going to test this thesis. But we’ll see what I can find :D

But then again, is being happy the most important thing in life? Or is having a sense of fulfillment the most important thing in life?

History of gun shootings in schools (American)

Columbine High School Massacre (1999)

Gunmans - Eric Harris, Dylan Klebold. They were described as ‘angry teenagers’ who hated the world and plotted the large-scale massacre as early as a year before the shootings took place, in an article by Jennifer Rosenberg.

- KIlled 23, then themselves

Virginia Tech Massacre (2007)

Gunman - Cho Seung Hui was an English Major at Virginia Tech university who was diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder.

- Killed 32 people, then himself

Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre (2012)

Gunman - Ryan Lanza, who was described as ‘smart’, ‘nice and polite’, and in the tech club.

- Killed 28 (death toll so far), including his mother and himself

Survivors of previous shootings are saying that no real action has been taken on the part of the government to put a stop to these kinds of shootings. Gun control laws are being debated as to whether they should be put in place, and how much restriction there should be. They should tighten security in schools too. It doesn’t seem to be targeting a root cause, though. It appears to be an individual and family problem. The one thing they had in common was that they were obsessed with violent video games. Maybe they wanted recognition too.
